Painting is my work - I have constructed my life around it. For me, painting is an intense sensory experience.

My Work is largely representational, but I reserve the right always to move freely between degrees of representation and abstraction. In some areas of my canvas, the paint is applied very loosely with bold strokes, even thinned and allowed to run, just letting the paint be paint and do whatever it's going to do. This is often difficult because of my desire to be in control. I often have to leave the studio!. Other areas of the same painting are very carefully planned and executed. In this sense, I think they represent the way life is.

I am drawn to painting subjects at their pinnacle of transformation. When I paint landscapes in plein air, I prefer to go out in the spring and fall when the signs of the changing seasons are most visible. I like to do city scenes in the changing light of dawn or dusk. Even my portraits and figurative works are of people in their twenties.
